Job description, responsibilities and duties

Are you an energetic leader who blends deep domain expertise with a passion for coaching and developing people? You will be committed to maintaining and developing your expertise to ensure you bring best practice to your role, which you will then spread through the organization by empowering others. You will directly oversee team of Chapter members, who will be embedded in Squads but report to you as their line manager. You will help them grow and develop in their area of expertise and ensure alignment on the “how” of work they perform in Squads. You may also serve as a “player/coach,” spending a portion of your time embedded in a Squad, if so, you will work in your domain of expertise and use your experience to maximize Squad performance.

Your main responsibilities:
- Enable the organization’s new way of working
- Ensure that the organization has access to 'cutting edge' Chapter expertise on Data Engineering
- Share knowledge and expertise within and outside of the Chapter​s
- Ensure there are enough chapter members to support the squads and tribes in an aligned way
- Develop team members


About the Team

Develop and advance the Swiss Re Group (data & analytics) platform landscape with the goal of achieving democratization of capabilities (platforms, tools and SaaS services) for enabling the creation of innovative solutions to data driven business needs.

Enable the Swiss Re Group to efficiently utilize the platforms as well as ensure its availability and proper functioning.

The scope of the Tribe includes:
- Stargate - Fully democratized platform that enables the Swiss Re group to perform data driven analysis and create data driven solutions across all spectrums of complexity and required technical expertise
- Specialized Analytics Services - Stargate complementary capabilities (platforms and SaaS services) for enabling the delivery of analytics data driven analysis and productive solutions. Examples include Natural Language Understanding platform, semantic search SaaS services, and others defined by business needs and tech transformation
- Specialized Analytics Prototyping Tools - Stargate complementary tools for enabling the delivery of analytics data driven analysis. Examples: Automated Machine Learning tools, GPU notebooks
- The engineering and advancement of the Data Warehousing platforms
- The engineering and advancement of the Master Data Management platforms
- The engineering and advancement of the Data Lifecycle Management platform
- General platform operations and service management as per the best practices in the industry
- Strategic management of vendors and partners required to deliver on the platform opportunities

Personality requirements and skills

We are happy to meet you if you possess:
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing people and teams
- Technical and functional knowledge in software development at an enterprise environment with technologies such as Java, Python, Spark, Kubernetes, ElasticSearch is a plus
- Experienced with DevOps working environments
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills as well as commitment to quality and timely delivery
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including clear articulation of technical topics to a non-technical audience
- Proven analytical skills and experience making decisions based on hard and soft data
- Experience with resource planning and allocation within and across organizations
- Dedication to the Swiss Re’s new way of working through greater collaboration and breaking down of silos
