EU Customer Allowances Management Team Leader/Manager

What will you work on?

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Credit & Collections and Accounts payable - Europe and responsible for Reporting, Monitoring, Advising and providing Guidance on Customer Allowances to ensure activities are performed according to agreed timelines and in compliance with procedures.

How will you create impact?

A. Customer Allowances Management:
• Ownership and Accountability of European Customer Allowances monitoring and reporting processes.
• Regular reporting of Trade Terms accruals against actuals/budget/forecast for each market, key customers and all Europe
• Working closely with Brand Finance providing input into the Allowances Budgets and Forecasts at Market and key Customer levels
• Regularly reviewing Allowance rates against actual allowances and adjusting accrual rates after obtaining approval from the heads of Finance and Commercial teams.
• Tracking and Reconciling customer deals against deductions in the AR ledger and SalesForce
• Work closely with Credit &Collection, Sales, Brand Finance and Financial Reporting & Compliance to ensure all Allowances and accruals have underlying support, identifying major differences and implementing corrective actions
• Work closely with Finance teams of each legal entity to ensure that Allowances reconcile to the General Ledgers (B/S and P&L) on a monthly basis (including breakdown by year and customer where required).
• Work with Internal Controls and external auditors and ensure monitoring and correction of deficiencies in the Allowances processes.
• Produce monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc reports, analysis and commentary for European and Toronto HQ management review.
• Identify business process gaps and work toward improvement of existing processes, reduce risk and errors in Allowances.
• Document all processes and procedures in the Customer Allowances area and keep these updated as needed to provide a reference manual for training and continuity.
• Other duties as required or assigned as a result of changes and growth in the European business.

B. Leading & Managing the Customer Allowances Management Team
• Coordination of workloads with direct reports
• Ensure that all members of the team have up-to-date Job Descriptions, SMART Objectives and their performance is evaluated on a semi-annual and annual basis
• Recruitment and on-boarding of new hires
• Manage, coach and develop direct reports and team to align to the Company’s objectives. Identify team weaknesses and implement actions to mitigate.
• Give detailed feedback on the performance of team members for staff evaluation and reward purposes
• Develop a positive team working environment of collaboration, open communication, and collective team achievement
• Support team members with queries/issues related to respective markets
• Escalation management
• Delegate duties to the team members to ensure effective, fast and efficient workings of the function
• Build and maintain constructive relationship with various departmental teams to improve existing processes and enable positive change
• Other ad hoc tasks (assigned projects) and duties as assigned by management
• Liaise with Toronto HQ to fulfill corporate requirements

How will you fit into the team?

• Strong accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong computer skills in MS Office and advanced Excel experience would be an advantage
• Experience of using SAP, SAP Credit Management tools and reports.
• Good leadership skills
• Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) in English; a friendly diplomatic manner is a must
• Proven interpersonal and customer relations skills to establish excellent working relationship with a wide variety of people at all levels.

What are your skills and experience?

• Qualification Relevant to the Role and Related education preferred
• A Minimum of 5+ years related experience in a mid to large sized company
• Experience with Consumer Goods/ Retail Industry preferred
• Good knowledge of Customer deductions/claims, Customer allowances, and systems
• Good computer literacy is required and good Excel skills.
• Knowledge of SAP is essential
• A good level of the English language, both orally and in writing.
• A good level of numeracy and familiarity financial analysis
• Fluent in another European Languages is an advantage
