Job description, responsibilities and duties

We are a Swiss management consulting company with a global footprint and trusted partner to financial services providers, solving their biggest challenges and helping businesses evolve to capture the potential of the new economy.

Currently, we are looking for a highly competent SQL Database Developer to support the technology team to help with automation of deployment of insurance tools and their associated infrastructure. Our technology team is going through an exciting period of growth, and as the Senior Database Administrator, you will assist the IT development and infrastructure teams with building and maintaining their databases as well as design/testing of SQL data fix scripts for arising data issues, creation and maintenance of views, data investigation and reconciliation.

Your Tasks:

• Advise and assist development teams with database modelling and design
• Partner with full stack development teams to create, manage and secure databases in AWS
• Develop solutions using cutting edge AWS database technologies
• Solve issues by designing, developing, testing, and deploying software solutions in SQL or other database programming languages
• Monitor system performance metrics to identify potential risks/issues
• Keep up to date on the latest technological developments and advise the wider team and organisation on these developments as necessary
• Work on indexing, replicating, and performing disaster recovery services across multiple AWS regions

Experience Required:

Either of the following:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as an AWS database administrator
• Alternatively, administrator experience of alternative cloud-based platforms (and a willingness to adopt to AWS quickly)

Personality requirements and skills

• Excellent knowledge of AWS Databases such as RDS, RedShift, Aurora and PostgreSQL or experience of equivalent platform and a willingness to adapt to AWS
• Strong programming skills in SQL
• Working in small teams using Agile methodologies
• Database security, and optimisation
• Strong problem solving and documentation ethos
• Good communication skills to communicate from technical to user levels.
• Excellent analytical and organization skills
• Ability to work independently, prioritise work and know when to seek guidance.
• Flexible attitude and ability to perform well under pressure.
• High attention to detail alongside great time management.
• Ability to interpret both technical and non-technical requirements.
• Sound knowledge of traditional as well as agile software development methodologies
• Knowledge of Scrum methodology of agile software development and its application

Nice to have:

• Good knowledge of AWS services
• Experience in the commercial insurance industry would be beneficial
• Knowledge of Snowflake, or similar data cloud technology
• Jira or similar issue management system
• GIT Version Control system
• AWS Certified Developer Associate (preferred)
• Experience working with Microsoft’s .Net Framework, Java, Visual Studio, HTML5, JavaScript frameworks, and J2EE
