Job description, responsibilities and duties

Under the overall supervision of the Head of IOM Office in Slovakia and direct supervision of the Media and Communication Specialist; the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for assisting with media, communication, publicity and raising awareness of IOM Slovakia and migration issues.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Assist with preparation, implementation and evaluation of IOM Slovakia outside relationship plans, and resulting actions: publicity and visibility about migration issues, IOM activities and events, and IOM beneficiaries tailored for IOM websites, social media platforms, newsletters, official media houses, partners, donors, and general public.
2. Research needed resources and produce news stories, press releases, client stories, photos, audio/podcasts and videos from scriptwriting, through shooting, editing, postproduction to their publishing on IOM dedicated platforms.
3. Assist with local implementation of IOM global information campaigns and local-regional coordination on communications, media and outreach.
4. Assist with work of IOM Editorial Board – preparing meetings, taking minutes, gathering resources for publicity on daily basis, providing feedback.
5. Arrange photo and video coverage of office official events, activities in the field, client stories and so on as needed.
6. Assist with effective management IOM accounts on social media platforms. Implement posting strategy. Curate content to increase reach, audience, followers and website/social media engagement. Appropriately interact with queries from audience.
7. Run social media ads/campaigns, evaluate and report them.
8. Assist with the re-design, management and update the office official website (www.iom.sk) and IOM programme websites; address their safety; create and manage their content.
9. Conduct research and data collection for articles and replies to media queries.
10. Support the preparation and carrying out of IOM media events such as press conferences, trainings for media representatives and other meetings with media.
11. Develop and keep media contact database up to date to facilitate further media coverage of IOM activities and migration topics.
12. Monitor and analyse media coverage, audience, performance and results of IOM websites and social media, and prepare reports as needed.
13. Create and apply graphic design of official outputs, mainly online banners, presentations, newsletters, and graphics to photos, videos, podcasts etc. Develop ideas for graphic design of complex materials, e.g. promotional leaflets, brochures, posters, or information packages.
14. Collaborate with and serve as a regular contact point for service providers such as website designers and developers, graphic designers, PR/digital agencies, external printing companies, videographers, etc.
15. Ensure compliance with IOM Brand Guidelines rules and elements for all office and staff ATL/BTL communication and adherence to these guidelines.
16. Assist the programme/unit managers with the development of public materials. Provide them with support for content production (articles, posts, leaflets, videos, podcasts…) and capacity building, as appropriate, on practical skills and procedures for promoting visibility and raising awareness of their programmes/projects through various channels and actions.
17. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by Head of Office and the direct supervisor.

General Staff (GV, UN Salary Scale valid for the Slovak Republic since 1 Jan 2009). Step one of the salary scale corresponds to all inclusive fee 1490 EUR per month (take home payment 1455 EUR per month - income is exempted from taxation).
6 weeks of paid annual leave per year (2.5 days per completed month of service).
24 days of paid sick leave per year (2 days per completed month of service).

Personality requirements and skills

Education
• University degree in Communications, Marketing, Public relations, Information Management, Political or Social Sciences, or related field from an accredited academic institution, with at least three years of relevant professional experience, preferably in similar roles;
OR
• Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with at least five years of relevant working experience, preferably in similar roles.

Experience

• Experience in planning, writing, editing, and producing newsletters, press releases, articles, social media content, short videos; podcasts; reports and briefing memos; marketing collateral, and other print materials;
• Experience with up-to-date/current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications;
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher SharePoint is required;
• Demonstrated proficiency with design, photo-editing and video-editing Adobe Creative Suite software, content management systems for web sites, administration of social media platforms and apps for newsletters;
• Experience in project management is an advantage;
• Experience in working with migrants, migration management, and international migration issues is an advantage.

Skills

• Excellent content writing skills;
• Excellent data analysis, visualization and presentation skills;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with a team;
• Ability to work independently, prioritize and multi-task, with minimum supervision;

Languages

• Fluency in English and Slovak (oral and written).
• Knowledge of another official IOM (French, Spanish) language is an advantage.
